CCTV POLICY 2026

Overview

To further enhance the safety and wellbeing of our students, families and staff, we have CCTV surveillance operating in the following areas of the studio with clear signage displayed throughout advising that CCTV is in operation.

  • All three dance studios

  • Downstairs rear waiting area and upstairs waiting area

  • Front gated entrance and rear car park

The system has been implemented to:

  • Enhance the safety and security of students, families, teachers and visitors

  • Promote a respectful and positive studio environment

  • Support professional standards and accountability across all classes

  • Assist in responding promptly to any incidents or concerns

For the purpose of studio supervision and management, the Director and approved staff will have secure, real-time access to view classes via authorised mobile devices. This access is used solely for internal operational oversight and to ensure the highest standards of care, professionalism and student wellbeing are maintained.

Viewing in the foyer

From time to time, TV screens may be available in the foyer/waiting areas to allow you to view a live feed of some classes. This can be helpful for parents who are curious about what happens in the studio.

We do, however, ask for your understanding that a dance class does not always look like “constant dancing” on screen. Some important parts of class may look like:

  • Demonstrations of technique or exercises

  • Corrections being explained or the teacher talking with the students

  • Students working through choreography in smaller groups while others wait or review their steps

  • Classes are designed not only to teach dance, but also to develop important life skills such as focus, listening, social interaction, independence, and confidence.

  • Young children are still learning how to regulate their attention and behavior; it is normal for their level of focus and participation to vary from week to week, especially within Preschool, Stars & Diamonds classrooms.

What you may see on the TV monitors is only a brief snapshot of the class and may not reflect your child’s overall progress, effort, or enjoyment.

We kindly ask parents to avoid being overly critical of what they see on the monitors, especially with preschoolers, and to trust that the teacher is managing the class with each child’s individual needs in mind.

If you have questions or concerns about your child’s experience or progress, we encourage you to speak with us directly rather than relying solely on what is seen on the screen.

We focus on developing the whole dancer—physically, mentally and artistically. Stillness, listening, explanation and discussion are all essential parts of learning, just as much as moving to music.

Changing, costumes and privacy

To protect student privacy, students must not get changed in any studios or waiting areas where cameras are operating. All students are asked to use the new toilet/change area only for getting changed, or to wear the same uniform for an entire afternoon.

For costume rehearsals, or any situation where students may be changing in studios, all CCTV in those studios will be turned off or covered so that nothing is recorded during those times.

Storage and use of footage

Our CCTV system records video only.

CCTV footage is stored securely for a period of 1 month and is only accessed by authorised management staff if required to review an incident or concern. Where we have an incident report or specific concern, relevant footage may be securely stored for a longer period of time as needed.

Footage is for internal use only and will not be shared with the general public. It will never be used for social media, advertising or promotional purposes, and will not be shared with third parties unless required by law or where necessary to investigate a serious incident.

Dancenergy is committed to handling all CCTV footage responsibly and respectfully, in line with relevant privacy laws and our studio policies, with the privacy and wellbeing of our students and families remaining our highest priority.

We remain committed to providing a safe, positive and nurturing environment where every dancer can learn, grow and thrive.
